Rust and Regulation

It’s April Fools’ Day…and that’s no joke!   It’s been a great week here at the shop.  As usual, we’ve got some updates for you.
Over the past few weeks, you may have noticed that we have not had the best of luck finding a proper block for the 1992 BMW 735i…  Well, this week we’re crossing our fingers that this third engine – yes, the third! – is the one!

Last week, we showed you more progress on the 1986 BMW 325 swap project.  Here are a few more photos of the interior being reinstalled:

The battery gets charged, and Reggie checks to make sure all the wiring is correct before putting everything back in place.

So far so good!  We’re excited to get the newly painted pieces back soon from the paint shop…we’ll be sure to keep you updated!  The owner is stopping by later today to check out his bimmer and to drop off some cool stuff to be installed.

We’re the kind of people who believe things happen for a reason.  Last week, Reggie got a phone call from a gentleman who has just moved to the area, who happens to have 30 years experience with metal work.  He came in to visit the shop, and started working on one of our projects this week.  His name is John, and he’s very good at what he does.  We’re excited to have him here!  Here’s a look at what’s been keeping him busy this week – the 1987 BMW 325!

Here is the good, used extracted floor pan going in the passenger side:

There was also rust around the lower corner of the windshield, which John also removed:

More on the ’87 325 soon!

This sweet little 1993 BMW 325i cabrio rolled into the shop this week.  She’ll be getting quite a bit of work (control arms, timing belt, oil change, rear shock mounts, just to quickly name a few items) to get ready for spring…if spring ever decides to come, that is.  No matter what, this bimmer will be ready!

Reggie replaced a window regulator in this 1997 BMW 528i.

This bimmer wasn’t only in for a new window regulator, but also a few other things: valve cover gasket, throttle body gasket, air mass meter boot, front brake pad sensor, new front sway bar links, oil change, alternator belt, accessory belt tension pulleys, service and reinstall air filter, ball joint boot on the passenger side outer tie-rod, differential service, and repainting the mirrors.  This great looking bimmer is now fit as a fiddle.

Let’s take a closer look at the window regulator replacement.  After removing the door panel, Reggie gets to work on removing the regulator.

Reggie removes the window motor to be used with the new regulator. The motor is fine, it’s just the regulator that needed to be replaced.

Once the motor is attached to the new regulator, it’s time to reinstall it in the door:

Finally, the window goes back in for testing…Aced!  The car will be road tested and the windows will be cleaned.  Another fine bimmer back on the road.  Gotta love that!

We got another super cool phone call this week from a gentleman in Montreal.  He’s the owner of a pristine 1991 BMW 325ix – never been driven in snow or salt!  He says it needs some work, and hopes that he and his wife will take a road trip to our shop this summer to have it worked on.  We are looking forward to it!

Have a great weekend!

Our founder, Reggie Stewart, taking part in a panel discussion at @noblesvilleschools about their internship program, which we have taken part in over the years. This panel was held as part of their Miller Ambassadors program, which Reggie is part of.

To the left of Reggie is Alaina Shonkwiler (@alainafornoblesville), who is currently running for Indiana District 29 State Representative. Alaina was part of the team that placed interns for Noblesville Schools and has also been involved with businesses that have hosted interns.

The rest of the panel was made up of @noblesvillehighschool students involved in the internship program.

The internship program encompasses many industries and is supported by several local businesses. We believe in the internship program at NHS, as we want to help grow the next generation and allow them to learn about careers that they may not have had access to, and allow them to see if this could be a career path they would enjoy.
