Dressing Up the Infamous e30 Cabrio Interior

Happy Friday! We’ve survived another heat wave this week here in Noblesville! It has actually rained a bit today! I know, I know, it’s hard to believe! And because the threat of thunderstorms looms throughout the rest of the day, tonight’s Cruise-In is weather-permitting. ***Note: Tonight’s Cruise-In has been cancelled due to weather.*** And now for your regularly scheduled blog post!  🙂

With my summer shooting schedule and since it’s been so incredibly warm (or not so incredibly seeing as we’re here in the Midwest!), I’ve not been in the shop as much to photograph what the guys have been up to, but here’s a look at what I did capture when I was there!

While John and Sam worked on the bimmers above (plus several others not pictured!), Reggie worked on dressing up the interior of Sean’s e30 cabrio, the infamous ’88 325i.  As I photographed Reggie working on this project, it reminded of how far we’ve come.  After all, I had really gotten into photography as I started Reggie’s blog.  And one of the first big projects I remember documenting was the reconditioning of this very cabriolet.  It seems like yesterday and years ago all at the same time.  To check out some history on Sean’s cabrio, feel free to take a ride down memory lane with this blog post (and the blog posts listed there).

After removing the interior from the cabrio, it was time to disassemble the seats and remove the old upholstery:

Hog rings! These babies are an absolute necessity when it comes to upholstery work!

A look at some of the old interior pieces, showing wear and tear, cracks and splits:

Reggie marks the spot on the seat heater where it will attach to the seat itself:

This spray adhesive works wonders!  Another handy item to have around for this type of job!   Sticky, sticky stuff!  With that said, it’s imperative that you’re ready for surface A and surface B to be permanently bonded pretty quickly…and permanently, of course.
